Apocalypto

In the below post I mentioned that on Russells and my date, we saw a scary movie. We saw Apocalypto by Mel Gibson.
I spent the entire movie with my fingers in my ears and my eyes squinted as it was quite gruesome and graphic. I have pretty graphic nightmares as it is and so during the whole movie Russell kept saying "Im so sorry, Im so sorry". However, after having a week or two to reflect on it, it was a fantastic movie! I actually wouldnt mind going and seeing it again!
The whole movie is in sub-titles, which you hardly notice, and it has great camera work. The message it has (not christian) is great and he really gets his point across through the movie.

I would recommend people to see the flick, just be cautious of the gorey bits.
Great movie - I would rate it 8.5/10.
If you have seen it and dont agree. Tell me why!

Most of the actors apparently got their piercings for the movie!
They had some wicked plugs!! Especially the cute little 4yr old!! MASSIVE!

One bad duuude

These people were seriously possessed! It was real scary!

Update on 2007 goals

I decided that even though we are only 1 month into the new year, I would revise the goals I set for myself this year, and see how on track I am going.

  • No soft-drinks - still going strong
  • Go to the Gym at least 3 x a week - mmm, not so good, but this week have planned to go for a few trips
  • Play in a professional (all womens) netball team - so far still playing in a casual comp. However Russell got offered a spot in Super League!!! (unfair)
  • Get back to either my Rugby or Irish Dancing - wont start till March
  • Have regular quiet times - not going to well yet
  • Prioritise my days. I need to spend more time with Russell. We have both dropped the ball on this. Cant remember the last date we went on, but we need to start making time for each other - we went on a date and saw a scary movie!! But it was great to set aside time for each other, hopefully will continue
  • Keep studying at BC of WA (my Bible College units) and either do a few short courses at Tafe or a Diploma at Tafe - have an assignment to hand in that was due in Nov. last year. Am hoping to finish off this weekend!
  • Read 1 novel, then 1 self-help book as I like to call them (like books by Max Lucado, christianarchy - thats a good one I want to refresh myself on, etc) - Have started Velvet Elvis and also Black by Ted Dekker
  • Help at Central Point Youth and start to get involved in ministry with Russell - Had a youth meeting last week and so far am going to start off helping with the girls small group. Have also been asked to be on board with the Womens Ministy at church.

So far I think Im doing ok. I have got myself a small devotional that will only take about 10mins a day. I feel bad that I dont spend hours in Gods word and presence, but if I can start with 10mins, that would ge good. (I know I dont need to spend hours a day, I was just using it as an example)

There are a few other things that I need to work on, but so far I think I have gotten off to a good start.

I lied I lied....

Sorry all. I lied! I found my photos in my bag minutes after I posted that previous blog.
Wanna know what I did?? I got a tattoo!! AAAHHHH!!!!
My Little (big) bro drove me into Freo to get my 'tat'.
He stayed with me the whole time and was always checking to make sure I was ok. Hes such a good bro.
Outside the studio. I was so nervous!! I had to go pee before hand and the guy in the studio said that they were out of toilet paper and that since I was a chick, I had to go across the road to use a toilet. 20mins later I return to a worried brother that thought I had done a runner.
Across the road my butt!! It was about stinking 10k's away!! (maybe not quite)

Mmmmm....this one looks good!! How bout right on my shoulder blade!!
I semi-designed my own tattoo, so dont worry, some thought was put into the process.

The 1st tingle!! Not too bad - I could handle that.

Gritting through it all.

After he did the outline he gave me a break. It was so hot I was sweating everywhere and so was he. The break felt great!

Working away.

This was the position I kept all arvo. Sometimes if it really hurt I would find myself gripping the stool so hard I was lifting it off the ground :)

The black colouring done, all that ws left was the red.

Still shading.

One of Roberts 'artistic' shots

The end result. I was a little swollen, so I look a little puffy, and it was red for about 1 hour.

Getting a patch put on for any bleeding!
"What Im going to bleed? Who said anything about blood?"

Robert having a chat about what he will get next. He currently has one on his right shoulder, one on his left inner arm, one on each pec, and is now looking at starting sleeves.
All in all I would say that the pain was bearable, because you couldnt feel a thing after he took the needle off. Sometimes you couldnt feel anything, just vibrations, other times it felt like a hook being dragged under your skin - not pleasant. I didnt have any pain afterwards, and so I would say my piercings were worse. More blood and a LOT more pain.
If your thinking of getting a tattoo, think about it as you cant change your mind afterwards. Make it something you will never regret.
That was my adventure for the weekend!! And also my surprise for Russell. He know calls me 'crazy girl' :)

Apologies all round

Im sorry to disappoint you all, but I left my photos at home and so I cant tell you what it was I did on the weekend.
I will bring them in tomorrow and I will show you all what exactly it was that I did.
Im so excited!!

like sands through the hourglass so are the days of bek...part 4

Choosing the new school.

When we moved over to Perth we had to (obviously) choose a new school to attend. Since it was only my brother and I at school at the time, we got to go with mum and dad to look 2 schools.
We went and had a look at Thornlie Primary School and also Thornlie Christian College. We went to the public school first. It was just like (similar anyway) our school in Cairns. Except in Cairns you could get away with not wearing any shoes all day (it was too hot). Robert loved it. I don’t know why, but I just remember when we left the school, Robert was sold. We then went to Thornlie Christian College. The students had their own individual desks and they had dividers up.

I loved it because it was something different and it seemed really exciting. We took a vote, I voted for the private school, Robert for the public. In the end mum and dad made the final decision and we ended up going to the Private school.
All of the schoolwork was done at your own PACE – hence the name pace books. You got little workbooks on all different subjects. Math, English, Word Building, Social Studies, Science, etc. These books had numbers and the quicker you finished a book, the quicker you could go to the next book up. You had to set weekly goals for how many chapters you would finish in each book, when you finished the test at the end of the book you would get a star on a chart for finishing that book (We had a chart for each term and you were able to see how many books you had completed for the term). The only problem with these books was you had to mark your own work and they were also mainly based on American history and teachings.
When you had completed a few pages of work you had to go to a ‘score key’ and mark your work putting crosses next to each incorrect answer, and you would have to go back, find the correct answer and then re-score.
(I know all you Thornlie-ites remember this!!)

I however, was a little cheater!! I have a really good memory, so whenever I went to the score keys I would memorise the next 2-3 pages, go back to my desk and fill them all out! I remember my Year 7 teacher telling us all "be sure your sins will find you out" and I remember stressing over getting caught! Never did :)

Back in Cairns, I was at the top of the class in my English and reading (I wasn’t really a good speller though). I remember being on Grade 3/ 4 reading books in Year 1. When I moved over to WA and started attending this school where you were on a number for your work level I lost a lot of self-esteem. I was on lower books then classmates because I hadn’t done a lot of the type of work they were doing in this school (I attended this school halfway through Grade 5). I thought I was dumb and sometimes copped teasing for being on a lower level than others. Hence, I started to put no effort in my school work because I didn’t see the point as I couldn’t catch up to others and I had no motivation sitting all by myself at my desk and forcing myself to do work. There was no class interaction and no teacher/student interaction. To get a teachers attention, we had 3 flags we could use to gain a teachers attention. The Australian Flag was used for simple questions, needing to go to the toilet, or a simple question regarding your work. There was a white flag that had a red something in the corner (cant remember what) that was used if you needed help for an extended period. The last flag was bright red. This was the emergency flag. You used it if you desperately needed help and had exhausted all other methods. I always used this one because the jolly teachers would take forever to come answer your normal flags. I’d get them over to my desk and then pounce on them with all sorts of questions.

When my sister was in Grade 1 she needed to go to the toilet. She started with the Aussie flag and the teachers wouldn’t answer it (no surprise there). So she stuck up her emergency flag because the situation became urgent and the teachers still didn’t answer the flag. She ended up peeing in her chair because the teachers were too ‘busy’ (lazy) to answer her flag and let her leave the classroom to go to the toilet.

I don’t share that story to embarrass my sister but to show you how corrupted the system was! That can be so damaging to children – wetting themselves in front of the class! Also leaving children to their own devices can also be damaging. I don’t agree with the system that school used, but thankfully when I was in Grade 11 (a little late) they abolished the curriculum and started using something else. My class was the first in the school history to start TEE and the change was dramatic. We went from teaching ourselves to having to go to a curriculum that was above and beyond what we were prepared for.

So I spent most of my time at school thinking I was an idiot and that I was never going to amount to anything much because I felt Grades lower than what I really was. I loved art but was quickly squashed by my teacher for being ‘too abstract’. I lost the friendship of my brother. He grew up and got his own friends and no longer needed me. We were best mates in Cairns and all of a sudden we were more acquaintances here in WA. Life changed and it was something I had to get used to. Everything was different. Church, school, friends, home. In Cairns I spent most of my recess and lunch on my own, but here I found myself striving for acceptance all of a sudden. I simply put it down to growing up.

Because I couldn’t lean on my intelligence at this school, I quickly developed a sense of humour to over compensate for my lack of grey matter. I took out a lot on Stunners and I quickly grew to love teasing him! IM SORRY!! You were just an easy target. I remember telling you to ‘get away hairy legs’ and I’m sorry. You’re a mate now!

There are so many stories from my school years. As I’m sure all of us have got stories. Mine grew a little dark in high school and I will post about that in my next instalment. I dabbled in lots of dodgy things (I’m sure we all did) and I’m not proud of what I did, but it’s a part of my journey and one that I will never regret – its part of who I am!

I hope you all have a great Aussie Day and that you all have safe travels!!

Happy Aussie Day!!

MAAAAAATE!

Being Australian is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then traveling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

Oh and...... Only in Australia ... can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

Only in Australia ... do supermarkets make sick people walk all the way to the back of the shop to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in Australia ... do people order double cheeseburgers, largeFries and a DIET coke.

Only in Australia ... do banks leave both doors open and chain the Pens to the counters.

Only in Australia ... do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars on the drive and lock our junk and cheap lawn mower in the garage.

Only in Australia ... do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

Only in Australia ... are there disabled parking places in front of a skating rink.

NOT TO MENTION...3 Aussies die each year testing if a 9v battery works on their tongue. (my personal favourite)

142 Aussies were injured in 1999 by not removing all pins from new shirts.

58 Aussies are injured each year by using sharp knives instead of screwdrivers.

31 Aussies have died since 1996 by watering their Christmas tree while the fairy lights were plugged in. (I know I shouldnt laugh, but I cant help it!!)

8 Aussies had serious burns in 2000 trying on a new jumper with a lit cigarette in their mouth.

A massive 543 Aussies were admitted to Emergency in the last two years after opening bottles of beer with their teeth.

And finally.... In 2000 eight Aussies cracked their skull whilst throwing up into the toilet.

Happy Australia all you bogans!!

Can you guess?

Im doing something on Saturday!
I bet you cant guess what!!

Oh, I also had a change of hair colour recently. I will post new photos on Mon. Ive gone back to my natural colour. Bet you dont know what that is either!!

Im so excited!! I cant wait for Saturday!! hehehehe, not even Russell knows!!

I will keep you all posted....but I want you to see if you can guess just exactly what it is Im doing! (and my new hair colour)

A busy mind

Ive discovered that I think too much and that this is probably one of the reasons as to why I am always so tired.
I was talking to a close friend with Russell the other night about how I walk everywhere. You see, as I walk ONE of the things going through my mind is the amount of steps I take. I don’t count every single step but I always make sure I take an even amount of steps, otherwise my feet feel unbalanced.
Also, say there are white tiles everywhere, and you know in the city they will make a pattern with a different colour of tiles. If one foot steps on those coloured tiles, the other foot has to also, other wise it feels uneven. Also, say there is a water tank (or something) that has been buried under the walkway and you can see the ‘gold rims’ around where the tank is. The rims kind of stick up on the walkway and if one foot walks over it so does the other. I also get annoyed when there are different spaces between tiles because I have to walk evenly over them.
A lot of this is really hard to explain and I would have to show you. But I havnt got OCD!! Its just one of those quirky things about me.
My friend said I think too much – Its true. As while Im walking around, I have about 10 other things going through my mind at the same time. There is just too much to think about! No wonder I crumple into a heap in bed at night.

modesty survey

On my sidebar I have a link to a survey that young men took.
It is an interesting read because it is answered strictly by young guys, and although I dont agree with all of the calls made on clothing, it is really interesting to see what young men find to be a stumbling block. As women it is so hard to find something that is nice and modest but not frumpy. I find it hard to determine what is considered a stumbling block, and the thought hasnt crossed my mind since we got married. I guess because Im married I dont think about what may be revealed at all, but it isnt just Russell looking!
I encourage you all to have a look at the survey and see the results of what is considered modest and immodest by young men around the world.

crab fingers

I went to the gym yesterday. I havent been for a week and a half and decided, I better get my money's worth and go. I thought I would be ok with my finger, but I felt like a crab the whole time!
I couldnt grasp the handles properly on some of the equipment. When you need to hold onto things strongly (its all resistence equipment) its really hard when you can only hold on with your thumb and pointer finger! Hence why I felt like a crab.
I never realised how much a sore finger can stuff up some of the simplest tasks, like washing the hair, washing the face, change gears in the car.
I have never broken anything before, and have never had any major, serious injury. This is my first. And Ive been a sook, (I think thats how you spell it) just ask Russell.
I decided not to strap my finger today because Im tired of not being able to do things and "be in control" :)
It looks a bit festy, but thats cool, I can semi type better!
Hey, maybe I should post my xray on the blog - that would be cool!!

House, by Dekker & Peretti

I read this book over the weekend. And I have decided to review all the books I read this year. This has been the first one I have finished.

Its a typical story line of Good vs. Evil including having a sacrificial lamb. For once I would like to read a Christian "scary" book that doesnt end up revolving around the death and resurrection of Christ. As I was reading the book, (not at night time mind you) I was thinking "finally a scary book that doesnt revolve around the death of Jesus", but I was wrong. Do you know what I mean? They all end up conquering evil with a sacrificial lamb! I guess Im just tired of the same ending. Not that they are all identical, but they all have the same "twist", if you can even call it that.
It was scary to start off with, and I wouldnt read it before going to sleep (I have nightmares 2/3 times a week), but as I got further into the book, it got harder to follow with all the hallways, different rooms, and running around. Its hard to imagine events when the scenary is constantly on the run.
I wont go into much detail, just in case you want to read it and I give it all away.
BUT, it was still a good read and gave me something to do on the weekend.
All in all, I would give it a.....2.5/5
If you've read and dont agree with my rating - Tell me why.

2007

I thought I would list the goals I hope to achieve this year.
I know we all set resolutions every time Jan comes around, but I decided to set goals, that will take time to achieve, little bit by little bit. So here they are. (You all need to keep me accountable)

  • No soft-drinks (Im missing my Sarsparella and Ginger Beer already, but so far so good)
  • Go to the Gym at least 3 x a week
  • Play in a professional (all womens) netball team
  • Get back to either my Rugby or Irish Dancing
  • Have regular quiet times
  • Prioritise my days. I need to spend more time with Russell. We have both dropped the ball on this. Cant remember the last date we went on, but we need to start making time for each other
  • Keep studying at BC of WA (my Bible College units) and either do a few short courses at Tafe or a Diploma at Tafe
  • Read 1 novel, then 1 self-help book as I like to call them (like books by Max Lucado, christianarchy - thats a good one I want to refresh myself on, etc)
  • Help at Central Point Youth and start to get involved in ministry with Russell

I cant think of any other ones I have kind of set, but I know that there a few things I want to be able to accomplish this year.

Wish me luck!! (or pray, either or)

whats been going on.

I know I just said I wouldnt blog much, but I changed my mind. This may take a few hours to create, but its better than nothing.
We have finally moved house and are looking after my parents place for 6mths while they are on long service leave. Jolly dad has had 26 wks of holidays owing (not including long service) and is finally taking a break. The day before they were due to leave however, mum got hit by a car while crossing a pedestrian crossing. She didnt go under the wheels (praise God) but still got grazes and did her back (she has constant back problems, so this was frustrating to have happen), they still left on the saturday after Mr Cathles the fantastic naturopath gave mum a "treatment".
They are headed to Adelaide today and Kate is ready to come home. ( I warned her about sharing a tent with Dru!) Kate decided at the last minute that she would join mum and dads trip for about 6 weeks, called up work and quit and headed off! So its just me, russell, and Granny in her flat.
Russell returned from camp safely - all day Fri I kept crying at work hoping he wouldnt die in an accident - imaging all different scenarios in my head. What would I do? I dont think I could cope if such a thing happened!
All in all, things are going ok. I am loving school holidays cos it means I get Russell home every night. No meetings, no appointments! Its great! Its also great having a pool now! 40 degrees yesterday!! Phew, spent the day by the pool and got a bit of a tan!!
Work is getting better, and I am looking forward to the year (at the moment) hopefully achieving some of the goals I have set for myself.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I fractured and chipped a bit of bone on my ring finger on the 7th playing netball. It is really hard to type and it is taking me forever to type at work, so Ive been putting off blogging because I get too frustrated hitting the wrong keys all the time! So, just thought I would update you all on how things were going!

snif snif

Im very lonely at the moment. My man has been away all week and he wont be home till Fri arvo.
Whenever he is gone I cant sleep at night (I get scared at every sound) I have no-one to talk to and I generally mope all week.
I cant wait for him to come home!! Luckily I have had a few things to get done that have helped keeping him off my mind, such as packing our house down. We are moving Sat morn and I have been packing boxes and shifting things to my parents place all week.
My parents are going on Long Service Leave for roughly 6 months and we are going to live in their place while they are gone. Meaning no rent for 6 months!! Only thing is, we will be inheriting a 16yr daughter! My sister. She will be staying with us. Here plans for the Seychelles (Mauritias) fell through.
Im sure this will be a fun time, mostly, but I can see Russell adding some grey hairs to his existing 2 on each side. :)

Anyway, we are blessed to have this opportunity and are looking forward to living at a house with a pool all summer!! Yay!! Summer sizzler arvos at ours!!

For some reason today however, my mind keeps wandering to Russell and I keep thinking of funerals, and how I would survive if he didnt come home. Morbid thoughts I know, but I have an uncontrollable imagination sometimes.

So thats why Im sniffing. Im lonely and missing my best mate. I dont think I will post till he comes home. Im on strike!

Apparently Im a rightie

You Are 25% Left Brained, 75% Right Brained

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.
Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.
If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.
Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.
The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.
Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.
If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.
Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

While surfing the net trying to find a few articles on the hanging of Saddam, I came accross this article. Thought it was an interesting read.

Mass. lawmakers vote to allow proposed amendment banning gay marriage to proceed
The Associated Press Published: January 2, 2007

BOSTON: In a suspense-filled final day of the legislative session, Massachusetts lawmakers kept alive a proposed constitutional amendment Tuesday that would put a stop to gay marriage in the only state that allows same-sex couples to wed.
The vote came after weeks of mounting legal and political pressure on legislators from both sides in the debate.
With a combination of parliamentary maneuvering, flip-flopping and brinksmanship, lawmakers gave the first round of approval necessary for the amendment to appear on the ballot in 2008. The measure still needs the endorsement of the next legislative session.
If the amendment makes it onto the ballot and residents approve it, it will leave Massachusetts' 8,000 existing gay marriages intact but ban any new ones.
"This is democracy in action. It's not a vengeance campaign. It's not a hate campaign. It's just an opportunity for the people to vote," said Kris Mineau of the Massachusetts Family Institute, a conservative group that opposes gay marriage.
If lawmakers had failed to act on the amendment Tuesday, the measure would have died, and opponents of gay marriage who collected 170,000 signatures to try to put the issue on the ballot would have had to start over again.
The pressure on lawmakers came from all sides: Gay rights activists and Democratic Gov.-elect Deval Patrick called on the Legislature to let the measure die without a vote. Gay rights opponents — and Massachusetts' highest court — demanded an up-or-down vote.
The state Supreme Judicial Court — the same court that ruled in 2003 that gays have a constitutional right to marry — declared last week that lawmakers had shirked their constitutional duties by refusing to vote on an amendment submitted by the people. But the justices acknowledged they had no authority to force action.
To advance to the next round, the amendment needed the approval of only 50 of the 200 members of the Legislature. On Tuesday, 61 lawmakers voted in favor, while 132 were opposed.
A few hours later, the lawmakers agreed to reconsider. But then they largely affirmed the original result, with 62 voting in favor of the amendment.
Earlier in the day, the governor-elect, who supports gay marriage, met with the leaders of the Democratic-controlled Legislature to argue against a vote, calling it a "question of conscience."
Patrick charged that the amendment process was being used to "consider reinserting discrimination into the constitution."
"This is not just another question for popular decision. This is a question, under the equal protection clause, about what freedoms the minority is entitled to," Patrick said.
Patrick takes the oath of office Thursday. His predecessor, Gov. Mitt Romney, a Republican who is considering a run for president, opposes gay marriage.
In November, seven states approved gay-marriage bans, joining 20 that had done so in previous elections.
Other states are moving in the opposite direction: New Jersey's gay couples gained new rights last week when the state legalized same-sex civil unions there. Vermont and Connecticut also allow civil unions.
